If you have to ask this question, you need to get in the car and visit - soon! Lutsen, in our opinion, is one of the most beautiful locations on the planet…and we’ve seen a lot of this planet.
When George Nelson Jr. came back from WWII after serving in the 10th Mountain Division skiing the Italian Alps, he looked at the Sawtooth Mountains differently and envisioned a successful ski business. Smart man. His hope was to bring year-around traffic to Lutsen Resort, which his grandfather started. In fact, his father named the bustling north shore port community in 1885.
Lutsen Mountain opened in 1948 with two runs – Hari Kari and Chikadee – both in operation today (see tow rope photo below - we're so glad they have comfy chairlifts now). Today, these two runs are part of Eagle Mountain located behind the Scandinavian Chalet!
George had a long-term vision for Lutsen and it's part of the reason we decided to make it our home. His vision is coming to life through the Superior National Golf Course, the Heritage neighborhood, and a determined dedication to preserve the beauty of the area for generations to come.
We hope North Shore Winery adds one more reason for you to visit in addition to the Lutsen 99er mountain bike race, great music scene, and wonderful people that call Lutsen home.

We are so thankful that North Shore Winery received a Resolution of Support from Lutsen Township in 2013 before we went to Cook County to build the winery.
We are very proud to be a part of this community and we are dedicated to giving back by providing a fun, new attraction, and actively participating in community service. We worked closely with the community to ensure our building location would be a welcome addition. Thanks to all Lutsen citizens!!

Location, Location, Location.
We selected the location on Ski Hill Road not only due to the amount of traffic passing by on their way to Lutsen Ski Hill but the site is super close to a ton of fun stuff. Check out Cook County snowmobile trails, the new bike trail extension starting in Schroeder, the amazing hiking trails, and of course the businesses in Lutsen.
